During the past year, a multitude of national disasters swept across the United States, from the man-made destruction caused by the Boston Marathon bombings, the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, and the explosion at the Texas fertilizer plant, to the natural devastations of severe storms, flooding, tornadoes across the Midwest and Southern states, Hurricane Sandy, and the ongoing Colorado fires. Unfortunately, in the aftermath of, and sometimes even during these events, scammers and identity thieves are plying their trade, seizing the opportunity to victimize Americans going through an already horrific time in their lives and scam those who try to offer aid. What can professionals do to help prevent the crime and assist the victims in recovering from disaster-related fraud and identity theft?
The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), in partnership with the OVC-funded National Identity Theft Victims’ Assistance Network, invites you to learn from experts during a free webinar, taking place on Monday, July 15, from 2:00–3:30 p.m. eastern time, titled Disaster-Related Identity Theft Victimization & Fraud.
